"The IQ Booster Kit from Perception Publications is a perception-training program I really like. Drawing on her ten years as a classroom teacher, author Simone Bibeau, M.Ed., produced a four-workbook series that exercises your child in these four areas: Motor (left-right tracking, mazes, eye movement, hand-eye coordination), Visual (similarities, memory, figure ground, space orientation), Auditory (similarities, memory, rhyming), and Comprehension (categories, sequence, language, awareness). The exercises are laid out in a carefully graduated sequence of fun activities. None of these require strain on you or your child's part. He practices drawing lines from here to there without running his lines into the "obstacles", he solves mazes, he colors the happy face if the birdies look alike and the sad face if they don't. For the auditory exercises, you might need to ding a spoon on a cup or thunk a book on the table while Junior listens with his eyes shut. Even this small effort can be removed by buying the accompanying cassette with the auditory exercises on it. We bought this series for our oldest son when he was four, and he absolutely loved it . . . we could almost visibly see his mind sharpening up as he did the exercises. Let me mention that when the IQ Booster Kit has been tested, 95 percent of all children tested significantly increased in their learning abilities by using the program. The art is engaging, and since the books are all black and white your child can have the added fun of coloring them in. If your son or daughter is old enough to hold a crayon, he or she is ready to start on the first book of the series. By the time a child gets to book four, he is solving complicated mazes and figuring out the answers to questions like 'House is like tent like glass is to _______?' Each book contains a diagnostic Progress Chart and suggested exercises for testing and remedying perceptual handicaps. Janet
Miller, Kindergarten teacher has been using the "IQ Booster Kit" books for 3 years.
The "Developing the Early Learner"
series has been helpful as my students not only have developed basic
skills, but in addition they have also learned how to express what they've
learned on paper. "I used this set of workbooks previously with my older two children and was really pleased with them. I appreciated how thorough & comprehensive they were in teaching motor, visual, auditory and comprehension skills. I particularly appreciate how these workbooks help develop the skills necessary for reading. That is why I am purchasing them again for my younger child." Deb B, Kansas "I have just ordered replacement workbooks for the IQ Booster Kit for my 3- year old, the third of my children to use this program. She is already begging to continue the exercises each day. I like the fact that these workbooks are not busywork - I can actually see my children thinking and watch their work progress. The skills taught here are often overlooked." Thank you for developing the series, Anne R. Dallas
